It was a great first night for our Fall 2025 9v9 season!
In the Over 40(ish) division, lots of new faces brought some added excitement to the matches. In the early game, the Fighting Falcons, captained by Sir Wes Thrift, looked to intimidate the Eagles with their chiseled twin strike force. But the Eagles’ skipper, T.J. Rostin, need not have worried — the Falcons couldn’t seem to put anything on frame. Channeling his inner Mahatma Gandhi, Coach Rostin had his team wait patiently for the Falcons to falter, then strike repeatedly on the counter. It was an inspired effort by the Falcons, but it simply wasn’t to be, as the Eagles took the win 5–2.
The middle game featured Hubba Bubba’s Golden Ospreys taking on Blake Easterling’s Fiery Red Dom Hawks. It was a back-and-forth affair with strong play from both sides, but the absence of a few key players ultimately led to the Dom Hawks’ downfall, as the Ospreys prevailed 7–4.
In the O40 nightcap, Bradford Amirault’s Mean Green Owls faced off against Coach Sachin Patel’s Sultry Seafoam Vultures. Unfortunately for the Owls, they were little more than a speed bump. Coach Patel’s Vultures were cruising 6–2 at one point before allowing the Owls a couple of late goals for posterity’s sake. In the end, it was a lopsided affair, with the Vultures securing the win 9–5.
In the Over 50 division, Mack Bigsby’s Crafty Cougars looked to give Dr. Dave Murrell’s Jaunting Jaguars a fight in the early stages, with both teams trading goals in the first 10 minutes. Despite some outstanding play from their keeper, the Cougars couldn’t match the Jaguars’ intensity, as the Jags purred their way to a 6–2 win.
The middle match between Mike Liddle’s Luscious Lynx and Scott “Milli Vanilli”’s Tigres was a much more competitive affair than the opener. In the end, though, Coach Liddle bested his counterpart from the Tigres, chalking up the “W” with a 3–1 victory.
Finally, the late game featuring Coach Bunky’s Pink Funky Bunch versus Sunday Neal’s It’s Always Blue in Beaufort Lions provided a first-half snoozefest worthy of the late kickoff time. The Lions seemed asleep at the wheel as the Funky Bunch danced their way to a 4–0 halftime lead. Some tactical adjustments in the second half, however, energized the Lions, who managed to notch a couple of quick goals to make things interesting. But in the end, not even some creative accounting by the referee could help the Lions overcome their first-half deficit, as Bunky’s squad pulled away to a 6–3 win.
See you next week for another exciting slate of games!
