Get to know us
Founded in 1991, by the original owner (Tony Bakker) of the Charleston Battery and local soccer (football) enthusiasts led by Joe Shuford, the Charleston Masters League (CML) is the premiere adult league in the Low Country. We were established to build the local soccer community and build relationships on and off the field. Our players come from diverse backgrounds, but we all share a passion for the game.
Although we certainly miss our days at the Blackbaud Stadium (and all of our celebrations in the Three Lions Pub) we continue our original mission - to promote soccer in the Low Country. We operate as a non-profit and support the growth of soccer in our community. You'll likely see CML sponsored teams at all the regional tournaments near Charleston. We have many former professional and collegiate players in our Over 40 (O40) and Over 50 (O50) Divisions.
The CML is a member of the South Carolina Amateur Soccer Association (SCASA), the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), and the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
