Cougars Pulling Away?

Week 4 brought another entertaining Thursday night, with three very different games and plenty of talking points.

Week 4 Results

  • Cougars 4 – Jaguars 1

  • Tigers 5 – Lynx 4

  • Lions 4 – Panthers 3

The Jaguars were a little toothless against the Cougars, leaving several good chances on the table — including a header from Dennis that somehow stayed out. Omy pulled the Cougars level in the first half, and from there Mack’s side gradually took control.

In the second half, the Jaguars began to tire and the Cougars’ relentless pressure paid off with three more goals to turn a tight match into a 4–1 win. The Jags did have one late scare for the Cougars, with Randy “Toenado” coming close, but it wasn’t enough to change the result.

Mack’s finances may be second only to Man City, but so far the investment appears to be paying off.

The late game was much tighter than the final score suggests. Both sides played solidly through the first half and went into the break tied 1–1. Things opened up after halftime, with the Tigers eventually edging the Lynx 5–4 in another entertaining shootout. Sal found the net again, continuing his early-season scoring run.

The Panthers struck first against the Lions, going up 1–0 on a near-post rocket from close range. It could have been worse for the Lions if not for some heroic saves from substitute keeper David Gieg, who kept them in the game long enough to find an equalizer before halftime.

The Lions grew into the match after the break and eventually took a 2–1 lead, but the pesky Panthers answered with a splendid long-range strike from Brian Reis to level things again.

The Lions then pushed ahead again, with Tradd Rosebrock providing the game-winner on a cracker from the top of the box. It didn’t swerve much, but it had some serious pace on it. The Lions eventually stretched the lead to 4–2, only for the Panthers to make things interesting one more time when Jaime Justo scored a nifty header to pull them back within one.

Time finally ran out on the seafoam green kitty kats, though, as the Lions held on for a 4–3 win — their first victory of the season.

Four weeks in, the Cougars remain perfect, but there’s plenty of competition developing behind them.

See everyone next Thursday!
