Week 1 Results
Cougars 7 – Lions 1
Tigers 4 – Panthers 2
Jaguars 3 – Lynx 3
The Cougars take the early lead in the standings with three points and a +6 goal differential, followed by the Tigers with three points and a +2 differential. Jaguars and Lynx each picked up a point from a 3–3 draw.
The Jaguars-Lynx game provided the drama of the night. Craig Delk and Raimundo Barreto scored for the Jaguars, with Brian Nettles delivering the tying goal right at the final whistle to earn the 3–3 draw. The Lynx goalkeeper also showed he’s much more than just a shot-stopper — a very good soccer player who was comfortable with the ball at his feet. Wes added one for the Lynx in an entertaining back-and-forth match.
The Tigers came flying out of the gates against the Panthers, racing to a 3–0 lead. The Panthers then came storming back, with goals from Branko Damjanovic and Bill Dyer cutting the deficit to 3–2. Dyer’s goal came on an outstanding header and gave the Panthers real momentum, but the Tigers eventually put the match away with a late fourth goal to secure the 4–2 win.
The Cougars opened with a convincing 7–1 win over the Lions. Paul Brady spoiled the clean sheet with a sweet goal for the Lions, but the Cougars’ attack proved too much on the night.
It’s far too early to draw conclusions after just one week, but opening night gave us plenty of goals, a couple of comebacks, and a tying goal at the whistle — not a bad way to start the season.
Next Thursday: Tigers vs. Cougars at 6:30, Panthers vs. Lynx at 7:45, and Jaguars vs. Lions at 9:00.
One quick housekeeping note: please grab your bottles, cans, tape, and any other trash before you head out. If everyone gives the sideline a quick once-over after their game, we’ll keep the place looking good.
Good luck next week, everyone!
